Aging = 美

2023

The installation showcases that growing and aging is a natural process - it is inevitable and objective, but this is not always reflected in Japanese society’s attitudes. I am intrigued by the natural process of how plants bloom and die but still appear beautiful. This is reflected in the beauty of understanding aging through different generational relationships. Also, Japanese texts from these artworks do not represent directly, but abstractly, for the English audience. The artworks portray everyday conversations with my family members about being a woman in Japan and how they respond to aging within society and their personal lives.
